What is an Online Ruler?
An online ruler is a browser-based tool that renders a scale ruler on your display, calibrated to show real-world measurements (millimeters, centimeters, or inches). It’s useful when you need a quick measurement but don’t have a physical ruler handy.
Why Calibration is Essential
Unlike a physical ruler, an on-screen ruler has no way to know the physical size of your specific monitor. Two monitors with the same 1920×1080 resolution might have vastly different physical sizes (24” vs 15.6” laptop), resulting in completely different DPI values. Our calibration slider lets you provide this ground truth.

How to Measure
- Calibrate first: Use the slider to match the on-screen card to your physical credit card.
- Choose your unit: Select mm, cm, or inches from the toggle.
- Click to set your first point (yellow marker) on the ruler.
- Move your cursor to the second point — the measurement updates live.
- Click again to lock the measurement.
[!NOTE] For maximum accuracy, physically place the object you want to measure directly on your screen (gently!) and align it with the ruler’s tick marks, or measure a reference image of a known-size object.
